But used InDesign from CS2 can sometimes be found on eBay or Amazon for affordable price, so maybe it is still better to go for this option. Your site is a wealth of helpful information! Thank you so much. I recently decided to take the plunge and learn InDesign. You are completely correct about the learning curve. Have worked in old time print shops for 2 years hot lead type and all , I have some familiarity with text on a page. InDesign is a bear to learn. I have learned it, though not mastered it.

I will be self-pubbing my first book I am already traditionally published this fall. I decided to tackle InDesign so I could be master of my own book destiny.

I love your blog and am devouring as many articles as I can. Sometimes the people who create the art are different than the people who reproduce the art, or use the art with other elements to create a product or some form of communication. With graphics software these two jobs are frequently combined into one, making the artist a production worker, and giving the production worker the tools to create their own art. Technology provides us with new means to conveniently package our products.

However, this makes a lot of difference when it comes to art. Traditional artists strive hard to adapt to new designing software. On the other hand, individuals who are technologically inclined are trying out on art using different kinds of designing software. Full content visible, double tap to read brief content. This series is probably one of the most practical for users of CS4, but as a newcomer to the Adobe design series of programs, I have had a great deal of difficulty finding any text that breaks down the program in a way that I can easily understand and use. While this is clearly a reference guide rather than an instructional text, it is one of the few options that I have found helpful as a neophyte. The chapters cover everything from document setup to text, color, placing objects, effects and graphics.

Unfortunately, this well-organized information is meaningless to anyone unfamiliar with the terminology of the programs. The author assumes I already know how to use the program and all I need are design tips. I can look up tool panels and their uses, but not how and when to apply them- or where they are located. I cannot draw a line until I stumble upon the information that a line is called a “stroke” in this program- even the index didn’t help me with this issue.

I don’t just want shortcut keys, I am looking for a definition of terms, and so far have not found this issue addressed in any book I have purchased.

I blunder through chapters trying to accomplish one thing or another, learning how to apply color or text, sometimes successful, sometimes not. And how about glyphs?

I would love to use glyphs to create more interesting text, but cannot navigate my way through this feature to activate it. You may have to use hyperlinks that point to a Text Anchor instead. Mai ali: You have have to create buttons with the Buttons panel. Or, you could open the pdf in Acrobat Pro and edit the links there in the TOC to adjust the view zoom. Ehi everyone!
